While Motorola hasn’t confirmed it yet, Amazon India has listed the Moto E5, suggesting that the phone is next in line to launch in India. The Moto E5 will come following the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play that was launched in India earlier this month. The 5th generation Moto E5 was launched in Brazil back in April alongside the Moto E5 Play and Moto E5 Plus. While the Moto E5 was spotted on Amazon India, we did not find any mention of the Moto E5 Plus or E5 Play, so it looks like Motorola is keeping them for a later date. As is the case with past Moto E phones, the Moto E5 is also expected to come with a budget price tag.
The Moto E5 brings some basic hardware specs but what makes it stand out from the crowd is its design. Motorola is making sure its 2018 phone look and feel like they belong in 2018, which means like the Moto G6, the Moto E5 also gets rid of those chunky bezels of old to fit in a large full-screen display. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming Moto E5.
Moto E5 specs and key features
Unlike past Moto E phones, the Moto E5 brings an 18:9 display with narrow bezels all around. The handset sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440) Max Vision display and is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB of RAM. The memory variant will be paired with 16GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB via microSD card. There is no word yet on whether the company plans to offer a higher configuration.
The other big highlight apart from the 18:9 display is that the Moto E5 houses a 4,000mAh battery, which should be big enough to carry you through the day and then some. Motorola will bundle a 10W fast charger with the phone that should juice up the phone quickly. The device will also run Android 8.0 Oreo when it ships to consumers.
On the back of the Moto E5, you’ll notice a dial-like circular camera setup that looks similar to the Moto X4 and the recent Moto G6. This setup houses a single 13-megapixel sensor with an LED flash just below. Up front, the phone bears a 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture. Motorola has also embedded a fingerprint sensor within the Moto logo on the back.
Additionally, the Moto E5 comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and support for 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC, among others. You can also expect some Motorola-specific features such as Moto Actions and Moto Display.
Moto E5 price in India
According to the Amazon India listing, the Moto E5 will be priced at Rs 10,990. This seems about right since the phone has been launched outside at 149 euros (approx Rs 11,850). Since the dual-SIM smartphone is expected to slot below the Moto G6, which starts at Rs 13,999 in India.
That being said, competition is tough right now with Xiaomi’s latest Redmi phone being priced extremely competitively, which means Motorola will need to price the Moto E5 right if it wants a fighting chance. Given the budget specs of the Moto E5, a pricing under Rs 10,000 will be more ideal than anything over the benchmark. To recall, Motorola launched the Moto E4 last year starting at Rs 8,999.
