Yankees injury updates: Good news for Tanaka, Sanchez

Yankees RHP Masahiro Tanaka (hamstrings) and C Gary Sanchez (groin) both have had positive steps in their respective rehabs.

Tanaka will rejoin the team and start Tuesday, according to Aaron Boone. The 29-year-old had a successful rehab outing on Wednesday, throwing five innings. He would have been lined up for a start on Monday, but he’ll wait until Tuesday to return.

Tanaka is 7-2 with a 4.58 ERA in 13 starts this season, striking out 73 batters in 72 2/3 innings. He allowed one run in five innings in his last start before he was removed from the game after injuring his hamstring while tagging up from third base on a sac fly.

Meanwhile, Sanchez caught a Tanaka bullpen session on Saturday and took two rounds of batting practice, according to YES’ Meredith Marakovits. He hasn’t run the bases yet. He is tentatively due to return some point around the All-Star break.

The 25-year-old Sanchez had a .190/.291/.433 batting line with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs in 63 games before being placed on the DL.
