Huawei unveiled a new Android tablet at MWC this year. The Mediapad M5 comes in 3 versions – an 8.4″, 10.5″ and another dubbed M5 Pro. Both come with the HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC with 4GB of RAM and 3 storage options – 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.
But why are we talking about a device with a last generation flagship processor and that launched in April? Because this will be upgraded to support Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology! The upgrade will roll out in July and it will make the Mediapad M5, the first series of tablets to have the GPU Turbo technology on board.
The GPU Turbo technology is supposed to improve graphics performance up to 60% while reducing energy consumption by up to 30 % all via software. This update will improve the overall performance of the tablet while bringing a smoother gaming experience. Huawei is reportedly also planning a gaming phone that will feature this tech out of the box.
The Mediapad M5 is a great device in terms of hardware for gaming and media consumption. It features Harman Kardon stereo speakers with 3D audio loudspeakers that support Hi-Res audio. It is quipped with a 2K IPS LCD panel which is decent to look at. You also get a M-Pen stylus in the box which can be useful for taking not or drawing. The battery capacity is 5100mAh and takes around 2 hours to get to 100%. Hardware-wise it is pretty competent and could be an iPad rival!
