Maybe he thought the score was 5-0.
Cops in Virginia responded to a pickup basketball game late Monday at an LA Fitness gym in Sterling after a player fell to the floor from an “aggressive screen” and called police, according to a witness who posted a photo of the unconventional law enforcement response.
“Today for the first time in my lie … I experienced someone call the police because they got fouled hard in basketball,” the witness tweeted. “Everyone at the gym and dude in the black with hands folded falls from a hard pick. He gets up tells everyone he’s going to call the police and walks out leaving everyone in the gym confused.”
The witness, who identified himself as Aaron, told local station WTTG he initially thought the unidentified man was joking.
“I thought he was being extra,” Aaron told the station.
But the man was dead serious and marched his way to the front desk, where police were called and later responded.
“When the cops came, he was like, ‘Why are you wasting my time?” Aaron told WTTG.
Managers at the gym confirmed the incident and response by police. Video footage of the incident is not available since the gym’s basketball courts do not have video surveillance, according to the station.
The other pickup players simply returned to the game after the incident, Aaron said.
One user on Twitter, meanwhile, said the unidentified man who called police looked like the “little brother” of New York Knicks owner Jim Dolan. Another joked that a responding officer took matters into his own hands by calling a “flagrant 1” at the gym.
Some users also came up with a new nickname for the man who called police, including #FlagrantFreddy and #CheckedCharlie. One woman noted that the man had the “exact same expression” on his face as #BBQBecky – a white woman in California who called police in April on black people barbecuing – and #PermitPatty, a white woman who called cops on a black girl selling bottled water in June.
