Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 launched in India, brings quad speakers, large battery and LTE support

While Samsung gets ready to announce the Galaxy Note 9 flagship smartphone in New York on Thursday, August 9, the company quietly launched one of its brand new tablets in India on Wednesday. The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 has been announced for the Indian market and it will be available for purchase starting August 13, 2018 on Samsung’s online store, Flipkart and across leading offline stores. Samsung has priced that entry-level tablet at Rs 29,990 and it will be offered in Ebony Black and Urban Blue colours.

The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is a budget tablet that was announced alongside the flagship Galaxy Tab S4 earlier this month. While the Tab S4 is a more high-end 2-in1 device aimed at more serious tablet users, the Galaxy Tab A is being touted as an entertainment-centric device as well as a tablet for kids. One of the of biggest features that Samsung is highlighting is a Kids Mode, which will allow parents to control what their children watch or read online.

“Kids Mode is a new way to introduce children to the tablet experience that is ideal for easy and visual learning for even the youngest users. Kids Mode gives parents the controls that is needed to manage usage time and ensure content, from native applications and brands, is age appropriate and educational,” Samsung said.

As for the specifications of the device, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 comes with a 10.5-inch display with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and 1920×1200p resolution. The tablet comes with slimmer bezels to offer a 76.3 per cent screen-to-body-ratio. Additionally, the tablet is equipped with quad speakers powered by Dolby Atmos to offer a more immersive 3D surround sound experience.

The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 450 coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. That’s the only configuration on offer, but you will be able to expand the storage via a microSD card up to 400GB. The tablet also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor with flash support. The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 will run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.

Another USP of the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is its large 7,300mAh battery which Samsung says will offer up to 14.5 hours of video playback. The tablet comes with USB Type-C port and also supports LTE connectivity so that you can stay connected on-the-go. The tablet also supports Samsung’s SmartThings feature that will allow you to control smart home appliances via the device.

Additionally, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 comes with what Samsung calls Always-On-Daily Board which will display information like the local weather or family photos when you connect the device to a charging dock. The tablet also supports Multi-User mode so that various people can create their own accounts on the device.

As mentioned, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 will be available online and across offline stores. Customers interested on purchasing the tablet on Flipkart can pre-book the device starting August 9. Additionally, Reliance Jio users purchasing the tablet can avail an instant cashback of Rs 2,750 on recharge of Rs 199 or Rs 299. Customers will also receive double the data on the these plans over the next 4 recharges.
