Apple seems all set to update its hardware range with a new iPad Pro, a new MacBook Air, AirPower, Apple Pencil 2, AirPods 2 and possibly new iMacs and a Mac Mini. The event is being held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York on October 30. Apple has been trying out venues outside California of late and held an event in Chicago earlier this year to showcase the new iPads. The event will start at 10 am Eastern time — 7:30 pm IST — will be livestreamed on Apple devices.

Here’s what to expect from the Apple event.

Apple event October 2018: New iPad Pro

The star of the show should Without doubt be the new iPad Pro. Speculation is rife that Apple plans to bring not one but two models of the iPad Pro — one with a 11-inch size and the other with a 12.9-inch screen size. We are expecting a spec bump as usual, iPad Pro users can also expect to see significant drop in bezels surrounding the screen, much like the iPhone X.

Then, of course, Apple will remove the home button which means the iPad Pro will solely rely on Face ID for unlocking. Recent rumours claim Face ID will work in any orientation unlike previous reports which suggested that it would not work in landscape mode. A new Apple Pencil is also expected to be announced alongside the iPad Pro with better features. Again, few details are know at this point of time.

Apple event October 2018: iPad Mini 2018

The iPad Mini was the most popular iPad at one point in time but it got overshadowed by the iPhone 6 Plus. But, it looks like Apple is planning to launch a refreshed version of the iPad Mini. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPad Mini will get updated with a better processor and a lower-cost panel. While Kuo suggests a new iPad Mini is coming, he doesn’t know if Apple plans to launch the mini tablet at this event or a later date. Will there ever be a new iPad Mini? Only time will tell.

Apple event October 2018: All-new MacBook Air

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the MacBook Air, which Steve Jobs first introduced back in January 2008. The most successful Mac is aging and desperately needs an update. Yes, it has been refreshed several times in the last few years with new internals, but it still features the same design. Not just the design, even the display is sub-par.

An updated MacBook Air has been in the works for a long time and could finally be unveiled at the event tomorrow. The new model would probably get an 8th generation Intel core processor, a Retina Display just like the 12-inch MacBook and MacBook Pro, and USB Type-C ports. We also expect bezels to be reduced significantly to make room for a larger display. Other details remain a mystery.

The MacBook Air has been pitched as the “affordable” MacBook and we expect to see a similar strategy adopted by Apple with the new model. Though we do not know whether the new MacBook will cost less than $1000 or it would continue to sell at $1000, the same as the current MacBook Air.

Apple event October 2018: New iMac and Mac Mini

Don’t be surprised to see a new Mac Mini at Apple’s event on October 30. The Tim Cook-led company hasn’t exactly updated the Mac Mini for years. The last Mac Mini was launched in 2014 — the same time when Apple introduced the iPhone 6. We do not know why Apple is delaying the release of Mac Mini, but we hope to see the introduction of a new Mac Mini sooner than expected.

An updated Mac Mini, if it gets introduced, would surely feature an Intel 8th generation processor and would also come with a smaller SSD. There’s also chance to see a design overhaul, but that’s just a rumour for now.

Other than the Mac Mini, we are also expecting to see the launch of the new iMac. Recently, four new models have been spotted on a regulatory filing on the Eurasian Economic Commission’s (EEC) website. Evidently, one of the four models refer to a laptop and others are said to be desktop computers.

Apple event October 2018: AirPods 2018

Apple’s AirPods continue to be the most popular pair of wireless earphones in the market despite being launched in 2016. So it doesn’t come as surprise to see the arrival of the second-generation AirPods in 2018.

We do not know if Apple is working on the AirPods 2, but rumour has it that we could see the next-generation earphones at Apple’s high-profile event on October 30. Word on the street is that it would come with noise cancelling and might even get water resistance. Another theory is that Apple is preparing to add biometric feature into its AirPods — possibly a heart rate sensor. That would certainly expand the usage of AirPods which rate already popular among fitness enthusiasts.

Apple event October 2018: AirPower

Apple first announced its AirPower wireless charger alongside the iPhone X last year but we have seen no mention of the device since the initial unveil. The Cupertino company has not been publicly talking about AirPower at all. Many believe that due to technical issues Apple had to kill the wireless charger which can charge three devices (iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods) at the same time, though these are mere rumours for now.

HOT DEALS

Despite the technical issues, Apple could launch the charger. In fact, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that the company would launch AirPower in the fourth quarter of 2018 or the first quarter of 2019. While we do not know when Apple plans to launch the charger in the market, we expect Apple to formally announce pricing and availability of the AirPower at its October 30 event.
